What goals should pitchers be aiming for?

When I played professional, I always liked establishing goals at various times throughout the season. I used them as checkpoints. They helped me stay focused. Do you set pitching goals?

Here are 10 tips to get you started. There are hundreds more. Master 10 at a time. Then come up with more from your own list. It requires some thinking. Then you have to act on them -- you have to do them! Challenge yourself to do these. They'll help you become better at pitching. Do you notice that most of these have nothing to do with physical ability? They have to do with  the mental side of pitching. That's something everyone can work on and improve.

  1. Battle hard to stay ahead of the hitter
  2. Know your best pitch on given day (this will change game to game)
  3. Have confidence
  4. Know your weaknesses and try to correct them
  5. Know who is covering each base
  6. Never show temper
  7. Control your emotions when errors are made
  8. Be the boss when on the mound
  9. Be aggressive
  10. Be a leader, lead by example
